The center was funded by $1.3 million of state tax money, says The College Fix. Timothy Welbeck is the director of the center and the only person listed on the center’s “professional team.”
Despite the center listing research as part of its mission, no reports or anything else of such have been published. The center also seems to have a severe lack of news, not being updated in two years.
The center has held some events this past year, but there are no upcoming events listed.
Corey De Angelis, research fellow at The Heritage Foundation, said that "taxpayers shouldn't be forced to subsidize divisive DEI garbage." Furthermore, he said that taxpayers should get a refund for this.
Matt Lamb, associate editor at The College Fix, says that nothing has been done to prove to the people of Philadelphia that the center's $1.3-million price tag was worth it.
“This just looks like there was a left-winged legislator who wanted to get in on the whole anti-racism game post-George Floyd and allocated $1.3 million, probably, to make his constitutes happy and to show that he was jumping on the bandwagon,” Lamb says.
However, there is no doubt that if any university officials or even students at Temple came out against this, they'd be labeled as racist.
This would also explain why more students on college campuses choose to fake liberal views to get a better grade. According to a survey done by The Hill, 88% of students at the University of Michigan and Northwestern University said they have pretended to hold progressive views to succeed academically or socially.
Lamb says that universities need to be reminded why colleges exist in the first place.
“Ultimately, the universities exist for the student. The faculty works for the student. It's not the other way around,” Lamb says.
