Viterbo University, a Franciscan campus of 1,900 students, is located in Lacrosse, Wisconsin.
With illegal alien arrests making the news, Viterbo has issued a three-page document for faculty and staff that advises them to use the words “undocumented” or “unauthorized” rather than “illegal.”
Those terms are “more accurate and less stigmatizing,” the document claims.
The university document is called “Supporting Students Experiencing Immigration Status Challenges.”
A copy of the document was obtained by The College Fix, the education watchdog that documents left-wing activism in academia.
College Fix editor Matt Lamb told American Family News the reason for the document is illegal immigration, in particular mass deportations being carried out by the Trump administration. That is why a portion of the document has a “FAQ” section on law enforcement coming on campus and if Viterbo can keep them off school property.
Lamb, who is Catholic, told AFN the current controversy made him recall when Viterbo attempted to police language about human sexuality.
“Several years ago, there was also a language guide that they sent around that said 'people should use the term “all genders" instead of "both genders,” even though there are only two sexes,” said Lamb.
Lamb said it seems Viterbor University is “hyper-focused on political correctness.”
