Marcus Croom, an assistant professor in the school of Education, is facing an accusation by a former student named Michael Claycamp.
Croom is accused of repeatedly making negative statements about light-skinned people all through his course during the Spring 2024 semester. This is highlighted in a report from The Herald Times of Bloomington, Indiana.
Soon after, Croom was notified that the Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) was opening an investigation into Claycamp's allegations, followed by an official sanction.
Micah Clark is the Executive Director of the American Family Association of Indiana.
"Well, first of all, I'm glad that university did this. I wonder if they would have done this a few years ago, but I appreciate their doing the investigation and finding evidence that this professor mistreated white students. I think this is a result of efforts that the attorney general in Indiana and the legislature have made to try and root out DEI, Diversity Equity Inclusion from our schools, in our universities that are state-funded."
Claycamp was reportedly notified that the university found a "preponderance of evidence" that Croom had created a "hostile educational environment for White students.”
"But the problem is you've got people who've been indoctrinated to think that America is this institutionally racist country, and that gives them victimhood status and justifies their being able to think they can mistreat white people who they see as a majority,” Clark said.
This type of climate exists when people seek victimhood rather than seeking opportunity and seeing the progress in race relations in America, Clark said.
Croom will reportedly receive a "Level One" sanction and will be required to go to professional development training on "inclusive training practices."
"Racism isn't confined to white folks. It’s a condition of the human heart. Any ethnicity can be racist,” Clark said.
“The human heart could cause us to prejudge or mistreat other people, and unfortunately, we justify it today through things like DEI and the narratives we see that are negative towards America,” he added.
