New workforce program with Labor Dept. furthers dismantling of Education Dept.

The Trump Administration says it is one step closer to dismantling the Department of Education.

The Department of Education says that it and the Department of Labor have launched a new portal in their partnership to simplify federal workforce development programs.

People involved with the effort say this will allow the departments to administer core Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) programs, including adult education and family literacy programs. The Department of Education will transfer program funds and detail staff to the Labor Department to support the programs.

Erika Donalds is the chair of education opportunity at America First Policy Institute.

"I certainly applaud this action by the Department of Education and the Department of Labor working collaboratively. As we know, President Trump promised the American people he would get rid of the Department of Education," says Donalds.

Donald thinks that this is a great collaboration between the two departments as they assist in the dismantling the Department of Education. She comments that it just makes sense for all of these workforce programs to go to the Department of Labor to oversee.

"It all should work together and not be duplicated in two different agencies all working to ensure that we have the economic workforce that we need to drive us into the golden age of America,” states Donalds.

According to the Daily Caller, President Donald Trump signed an executive order in March began the process of dismantling the Education Department. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon (featured bottom left) is to do what is needed to close the department and return the authority of education to the States.

Critics asked ask whether or not President Trump will succeed in dismantling the U.S. Department of Education.

"President Trump is not one to give up. When he says he wants to do something, he's going to do it. He talks about it constantly, both internally and publicly. Secretary McMahon, when he put her on the job, that is her mantle, and she is determined to do so," answers Donalds.

Donalds explains that this goal is not just to dismantle the department but to return power to the states.

"… and ultimately to the parents and the voters who can hold their states accountable for the abysmal performance of our public education system," says Donalds.

As AFN reported previously, the National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) recently released a report regarding the national average score of different subjects. The report reflects the students’ test scores in 2024.

"We just saw NAEP results come out today. Twelfth grade reading and math at the lowest ever recorded,” informs Donalds. “It is not working the way that we are doing it now. That is why we are dismantling and returning to the states."
