Breitbart reports that the Kern County Board of Education's resolution calls on governing bodies to uphold the protections ensuring fairness in girls' sports. This is accordance with the Title IX rules set by President Donald Trump.
Opponents of the resolution argue that it targets one marginalized group while ignoring real inequities. In fact, California state government actively opposes these Title IX regulations and protections for biological females.
The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) made accommodations for high school transgender athlete AB Hernandez to compete girls’ track and field state championship, reported AFN in June. Later that month, the Office for Civil Rights in the U.S. Department of Education concluded an investigation that the California Department of Education and the CIF are in violation of Title IX.
Steven McConkey, president of 4 WINDS Christian Athletics, says this is more evidence that support for trans athletes is shifting.
"Though the school district's small, it's good to see the momentum shifting. You're seeing the momentum shift United States wide. It's shifting," McConkey states.
The district only oversees education for about 400 students, but the board feels its resolution is a start. Kern has 46 other school districts, which the education board hopes will follow their example.
McConkey notes that he's seen a slow but steady decline in public support over the past six years.
"In 2019, at that time, 28% of people in the United States approved, and now, it's even less than that. I think that, if the Democrats and the radicals want to run on that platform, they're just going to actually destroy themselves," says McConkey.
