Boston University's fall 2025 semester course called "Reproductive Justice and Social Work" is to teach social work students how to cultivate "reproductive justice" by prioritizing "bodily autonomy." Matt Lamb's team at The College Fix reports the course will also address broader social issues, per the course's description. He described the terms mentioned.
"'Reproductive justice' is a euphemism for abortion," he begins. "[I find it] ironic that social workers – who are supposed to learn how to care for the most vulnerable – are learning how to advocate for abortion, which of course targets the most vulnerable people and in the United States kills around a million defenseless preborn babies every year."
The president of a Massachusetts-based pro-life group told The College Fix that those who approved the course appear determined to "indoctrinate" students so the next generation of social workers become "reliable abortion industry ambassadors."
Lamb argues the course is another example of a leftist activist training ground disguised as academic content.
"The description says students will learn about intersectionality, disability justice, radical reproductive justice, black feminism, and racial capitalism," he lists. "So, it sounds like it's pushing a far-left ideology. And what's concerning is that this is being taught to social work students."
Lamb points out the course is being presented as an important skill to future social workers – individuals who he contends shouldn't be focusing on helping women get abortions but instead on helping the neediest among us.
Boston University began as the Newbury Biblical Institute, a small seminary founded by abolitionist Methodists in 1839, in Vermont. It then moved to Boston three decades later.
