Concerns continue to be raised about policies supported by Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota.

Democrats boast that Walz, the Democratic Party's vice-presidential nominee, has an extensive resume, which includes time spent as a teacher. Still, Katherine Kersten of the Minnesota-based Center for American Experiment wrote an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal saying Walz signed an ethnic studies mandate into law.

"That is a requirement that all K-12 public schools in Minnesota integrate so-called 'Liberated Ethnic Studies' pretty much over time throughout all our required academic subjects, including science and math and doing a number of other kinds of things that will embed this ideology in our state schools in a very destructive way," Kersten tells AFN.

Kersten adds that Walz actually made this a central priority in his administration.

"He was able to get it through when the Democrats achieved a trifecta, we call it 2022 of the governor’s position, as well as both houses in our state legislature," says Kersten. "That opened the way for him to work to get this passed."

Minnesota does have a law giving parents the right to review curriculum and opt their children out of instruction they do not like, but Kersten said getting a child out of this is "just literally impossible" because it is embedded throughout the instructional day.

Lefty expert appalled

Kersten isn't the only one to express concerns. Experts brought in to review the standards expressed reservations, she explains.

"One of them who described themselves as a man of the Left, he was the most eminent of all these national reviewers. He was utterly appalled by what he saw," Kersten shares. "He used very strong language to say that you know this is not at all the way that academic standards should be created, that is where they were basically designed by truly extremists, political activists."

Earlier this month, Christine Trooien, executive director of Minnesota Parents Alliance, said education in her state has plummeted under the Walz administration.

When I highlighted the subhead and clicked heading 3, it applied the bold to the last three paragraphs. I worked it several times, made sure my cursor was in the right spot, but never got it to take heading 3. ... I searched for a Kersten mug but didn't find one. ... I didn't recall you saying what day this should run, so I set it for Saturday at 2. ... I found Kersten's WSJ piece but it was behind a pay wall, so I left it alone.
