Cal Poly's 'mind-control program' called a waste of money

A university in California is attempting to fight racism by offering a series of lectures that a pastor and founder of a national civil rights organization says are actually racist themselves.

In the "Whiteness Accountability Space" program at California Polytechnic State University, Humboldt, white participants are assumed to be inherently racist simply because they are white.

Campus Reform reports the program – marketed as a "practice group" as opposed to a "training or a workshop" – alleges that "[w]hite people have been socialized to repeat behaviors that favor white people and harm Black, Indigenous, and People of Color."

The "skills" it teaches can be used to "help in efforts to confront all other forms of oppression, exclusion, and supremacy (such as ableism, capitalism, cis-heteropatriarchy, and classism, etc.)," the school claims.

Lowery, David (Project 21) Lowery

"This is a mind-control program," submits Rev. David Lowery Jr. of Project 21. "What they're actually doing is saying we can take a white person, or any other person, and deprogram them so that they do not continue to be racist. I think that is absurd."

Though the sessions are open to everyone, they are specifically designed for white students.

"I think that it's a crazy program," Lowery continues. "That's a waste of money to try to change people because of who you are. America is a melting pot of different ethnic groups."

Participants are scheduled to meet twice a month for a total of more than 30 sessions continuing into December 2025.
