Public schools in more than a dozen states reportedly no longer present biologically based sex education; they have been replaced by pseudo-scientific advocacy of gender fluidity. The Flagstaff Unified School District in Arizona, for example, no longer uses the boy/girl distinction.
"When you say, 'We're going to eliminate the binary,' this is a steadfast refusal to acknowledge reality," responds Laurie Higgins, education and culture writer for Breakthrough Ideas.
Among other things, she thinks schools should be teaching kids about the physical dangers associated with gender manipulation.
"It should be mandated by law that teachers must teach students about all the risks of hormone doping, of puberty blockers," Higgins contends. "What scientists are increasingly surmising is that it affects brain development."
Instead, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre maintains that the real danger is "transphobia" and "bullying." And so far, that strategy of dismissing any commonsense concerns with feelings-based moral scolding has been effective. The Daily Signal provides several examples of the gains liberals have made with it.
"Sex education in the U.S. is quickly becoming a sick joke, and permanent damage to American children is the punchline," columnist Tony Kinnett laments.
