Patriotic college students tell Democrats who want to leave to go ahead

A new survey shows that many Democrats would prefer leaving the U.S. and living in a different country.

A survey from Elon University shows dramatic differences in the ideas of patriotism between political parties. According to Campus Reforms, the June 2 survey's findings showed that 55% of Democrats answered "yes" when asked if there is another country where they would rather live than the U.S. Only 10% of Republicans answered “yes” to the question.

Meanwhile, 68% of Republicans said that they were proud about America250, compared to just 18% of Democrats feeling the same. Regarding the American Dream, 75% of Republicans said that it remains achievable, while only 25% Democrats agreed.

Will Biagini, assistant editor of Campus Reform, went to the University of Texas at Austin to gather some reaction from the school's students and staff.

Many of the students and staff expressed their love for America, while also stating that there is no other country that they would like to live in.

“I think the U.S. has been able to do a lot in those 250 years, and hopefully, we can stay around for another 250,” says one student.

However, one person said she is feeling anxious about America’s 250 birthday.

“I think we just need to keep our democracy in place,” she said. “I’m feeling anxious about how it’s being seen and treated by various factions.”

They were then asked what they would say to those 55% of Democrats who were wishing to move somewhere else.

“If you want to go live there, go live there. At the end of the day, if you hate the U.S so much then stop living here. Stop contributing to the U.S if it sucks so much and go live in the country you like,” said a student.

One person even commented on why he thought the results of the poll fell the way that they did.

“I think it's because of Trump. I don't think they actually want to live in another country, and I suggested they all just catch the plane and go,” said the staff member.
