Proposition 10 asked voters if the state should prohibit Sharia Law, and 95% of Republican voters said "Yes," reports AMAC. The proposition does not restrict religious worship or target Muslims, but it addresses that religious legal code should not influence or override American laws.
As we have reported on AFN, unlike Judaism and Christianity, Islam is a political and legal system all rolled into one, and Sharia Law is part of it.
Krista Schild is the Texas Director for the RAIR Foundation (Rise Align Ignite Reclaim). She says propositions are like popularity contests and have no power unless the state legislature acts.
"It was really about where do the people stand on wanting to get particular bills written the next legislative session. We have been demanding a special session to deal with property taxes and the Sharia issue because we have the designations of CAIR and Muslim Brotherhood as foreign terrorist and transnational criminal organizations,” states Schild, “but that doesn't even have any teeth as far as law enforcement is concerned unless we codify that into Texas State law."
Texas Scorecard reports that a group of state lawmakers recently formed a new caucus focused on addressing Sharia Law. State Rep. Brent Money said the group will develop legislative proposals aimed at preventing the influence of Islamic law in the state.
Schild reveals that the RAIR Foundation helped Keith Self and Chip Roy start the Sharia Free Caucus in Congress.
"Brent Money actually said, 'OK, well, we need to start the Sharia Free Texas Caucus.' We’ve actually had a contingency of legislators since the last legislative session that had convened over this issue privately, but now they're willing to make it more public, especially after the people have spoken at 95%," says Schild.
Schild also says that local GOP precinct conventions have been taking place and resolutions were being drafted to send to the state convention. She states that solid wording is needed on any resolutions involving Sharia Law and this often necessitates defining it as some do not know what it means.
