Republicans in the Ohio House have passed the Charlie Kirk American Heritage Act, which is aimed at teaching the positive influence Christianity has had in the United States.
Republicans voted unanimously to pass the act and every Democrat voted against it, according to a Breitbart story. The final House vote was 62-27. The bill is expected to pass in the state Senate, too.
According to the Breitbart story, the legislation is opposed by the Ohio Federation of Teachers; Public Education Partners; Ohio Education Association; and the Children's Defense Fund of Ohio.
Linda Harvey, of Mission America, says Leftists are claiming the bill shows preferential treatment toward Christianity.
“But the fact is,” she counters, “that these are the facts that our Christian heritage is a part of our nation's founding and has been throughout our history."
What is present-day Ohio began in the late 1700s with the Northwest Ordinance. That land settlement plan, which began after the Revolutionary War, was led by Rufus Putnam, a Revolutionary War brigadier general who is known as the "Father of Ohio."
Even if an organization such as the ACLU challenges the act in court, Harvey predicts it would have a tough time making a case.
"It will be very hard for any honest judge to uphold any such legal challenge,” she predicts.
