Back to the Frontier is a new reality program that follows three families as they try to live the life of late 1800s pioneers. Think Bear Grylls meets Little House on the Prairie. But the Gaines are taking heat for one of their casting decisions.
“I'm Jason Hanna. My name is Joe Riggs. We have our twin boys Ethan and Lucas that are 10 years old,” the gay couple states in one clip.

AFA's Ed Vitagliano says it's an unwelcome departure for the Christian home remodelers, who once received criticism from gay activists for attending a Bible-believing church.
“Chip and Joanna Gaines have, in the past, it seems like, taken a stand with regards to the biblical teachings on human sexuality, marriage and family,” he said.
Chip Gaines is responding to the criticism by tweet, saying he was hoping the church would be more understanding an less judgmental – something Vitagliano says even Gaines would roll his eyes over if he were to think it through.
A different standard
“If they were a white supremacist family, I guarantee that Chip and Joanna Gaines wouldn't have them on their program in order to "understand where they're coming from" or in order to reach them for Jesus,” Vitagliano said.
He says a lot of the Christian fans of the Gaines have kids who are being targeted in public schools by gay or trans teachers and activists.
“A lot of Christians in this country are battling the encroachments of the LGBTQ activists, and a lot of Christians are going to view this as a betrayal,” Vitagliano said.
