“I keep saying Critical Immigration Theory is coming. What’s that going to look like? What’s it going to do? When will it really drop? Let’s think it through,” the post stated.
With a promise of mass deportations of illegal immigrants being carried out by the Trump administration, critical immigration theory has now come to fruition.
Lindsay, the founder of New Discourses, told AFR this week about the ist strategies involving critical immigration theory.
“I framed it as critical immigration theory to get people to understand that it has the same kinds of strategies, the same kinds of goals, and the same kind of mentality, that we saw with critical race theory and critical theory in general,” Lindsay says.
In a video with PragerU, the author and activist explained what critical immigration theory is and how it has developed. As with other Marxist-based critical theories, a group of people ware being oppressed in some way by a system that does not value them or see them as equals. This is wrong because, in the Left’s view, everyone should be treated perfectly equally.
Just as the poor and minorities are victims in critical theory and critical race theory respectively, illegal immigrants are portrayed as victims of a nationalistic, border-defending government.
“In this case, the system that's oppressing them is this idea of national citizenship at all. If we didn't have citizenship, well, nobody would be an illegal citizen,” Lindsay explains.
Rise of globalism
According to Lindsay, critical immigration theory will start off as human rights but turn to directly attack national citizenship and national sovereignty.
America has seen this with the shift in terminology of illegal aliens to illegal immigrants, undocumented migrants, to the vague term "migrants" in the liberal news media.
Lindsay predicts "undocumented Americans" is next, which will then change to just Americans.
National citizenship is therefore a social construct that restricts people from what is owed to them. Leftist use of critical immigration theory can lead to getting rid of national citizenship, which can lead the way for globalism and global citizenship to break through.
“The idea is that we’re all citizens of the globe. These national boundaries and national sovereignty get in the way of us being able to live in a global European Union. Every country should basically just get rid of its sovereignty,” Lindsay explains.
This claims that citizenship is really what is in the way, and everyone should be allowed to go anywhere they want.
“So global citizen becomes a replacement for the bad and oppressive and unfair and unjust idea of national citizenship, which is attached to national sovereignty, which advances a broader leftist global agenda, not just a kind of local power play,” Linsday states.
Attack on due process
“The left is not a fan of any constitutional protections for anybody at all times because they want to remove them. So, due process is getting dragged into the limelight. But interestingly, it's doing so in kind of the reverse way,” Linsay states.
The left is attacking the Constitutional right of due process to fighting for it to apply to illegal aliens. However, because they are not citizens, they do not have the right of due process under the U.S.’s Constitution.
“The left is setting up the right to be the weapon against due process. They're not going against due process themselves. They're calling for it. So, they get to look like the people based in the Constitution while they get the right to attack the thing they actually want destroyed,” Lindsay clarifies.
The contradicting arguments from the left can be used to create a wedge in the Constitution and further open the door for Democrats to introduce globalism.
“The problem is you're not going to get global citizenship any time you have national sovereignty and you're not going to get rid of American national sovereignty as long as you have the Constitution,” Lindsay reveals.
Once problems arise, global citizenship can be presented as the answer to the problems caused by national citizenship.
“They could press into something like a constitutional crisis that will have to be resolved, and the resolution that they would be able to present at the time is to say, ‘there's this other way we could think about organizing people in the world,’ which is global citizenship,” Lindsay says.
Lindsay continues by saying this is not far-fetch as the idea is already implanted into children’s public and private schools.
Defense for conservatives
“What normal people have to do is not react to what they see directly in front of them and try to understand the bigger play. With the left, there is always a bigger play. If you don't understand how the bigger play works, then you'll react, and they will take advantage of your reaction.” Lindsay says.
Lindsay explains that the first level of defense is calling out their plan instead of seeing it and reacting to it. The left is trying to bait people in certain ways for their reaction. That is why the second level of defense is engaging strategically to reverse the left’s strategy and use it against them.
“You have to act in a way that draws them out into making the mistakes that you can then capitalize upon instead of giving them the opportunity to pin you into a position where they're capitalizing on your mistakes,” Lindsay stresses.
The right for due process for only American citizens can be easily argued. While conservative judges and lawyers argue how much due process should be given to illegal aliens, the Constitution proves that they are not allowed any.
“The first step of the process has to assume due process during that investigation. Once that investigation has concluded and we see that this is an illegal alien, due process of law does not extend to them under the Constitution, and they do not have due process of law remaining. So, you have to make an argument like that, which is a simple, true thing. American citizens have due process.,” Lindsay states.
This removes the left’s argument while also reinforcing American national sovereignty.
“Then you can have a kind of Trump style quip if they want due process of law in their own country, they can go home and have it there,” Lindsay says.
