President Trump made the announcement Thursday during an event in Washington, D.C.
"I will be creating a brand-new presidential commission on religious liberty, (and) it's going to be a very big deal which will work tirelessly to uphold this most fundamental right," Trump said. "Unfortunately, in recent years we've seen this sacred liberty threatened like never before in American history."
For examples, Trump brought up the Biden Justice Department's prosecution of various pro-life individuals. The Biden administration charged them with violations of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, although the pro-lifers – which have since been pardoned by Trump – said they were praying and engaging in other peaceful activities.

Tony Perkins, president of Family Research Council (FRC) issued a statement applauding what Perkins called President Trump's commitment to protect religious freedom.
"This important natural right, that belongs to all people — as our first president, George Washington, noted — is not just a talking point for Americans, it's foundational to who we are and reflected in our laws and policies," said Perkins.

Kelly Shackelford, president, CEO, and chief counsel for First Liberty Institute said he is thrilled.
"President Trump recognizes that religious liberty is foundational to all of our Constitutional freedoms and plans to do all he can do to protect our first freedom," he told AFN. "All Americans should be free to exercise their faith without government intrusion in school, in the military, in the workplace, and in the public square."
Shackelford added that First Liberty is "ready to stand with President Trump" to ensure that the religious liberty of every American is safe and secure.
