The new law requires all schools in the state to mandate that parents be informed of any changes to their children's mental, emotional, or physical health and that parents give the OK before a child receives any health services through the school.
Aaron Baer, president of the Center for Christian Virtue, says this comes as teachers all across the country, including in Ohio, are pushing transgender ideology on children and hiding it from parents.
"You see the government trying to inject itself in kids' lives in a way that's dangerous and harmful to those kids," he laments. "So, House Bill 8 that the General Assembly just passed, that's the Parents' Bill of Rights that Governor DeWine just signed here, shut that down and said that it's parents who are in charge of the upbringing, education, and healthcare decisions of their kids."
Baer says his team has been working on this for quite some time.
"It's really unfortunate that something like the common sense of saying parents are in charge of their kids' education, healthcare … is controversial," he tells AFN. "But the reality is with the state of the media and the state of the Left, they really want to take control over our kids' lives."
That, he says, has ignited a resurgence of common sense, with folks engaging on the issue of protecting parental rights and "pushing back against the Left's craziness."
While he thinks passing this bill will get the state and the nation on the right trajectory, Baer wants people to understand how deep the corruption runs in academia and healthcare systems.
"We can't fool ourselves into thinking that the Left is going away or that we've won this battle," he notes. "The reality is the bureaucrats, the teachers, the administrators that think it's OK to tell a child they were born in the wrong body, they're still in these schools."
"There's still a lot of work to be done," Baer concludes.
