Supporters of the American Family Association, who live in Mississippi, will soon be able to purchase a license plate to benefit the ministry, which is headquartered in Tupelo.
The idea came from Rep. Randy Boyd, a Republican. He wanted a specialty tag with “In God We Trust” on it that Mississippians could purchase, but he needed a non-profit, too.
“I found out that we had to find a place to make the donation and I recommended AFA,” he says.
Boyd, whose district includes Tupelo, is a longtime supporter of American Family Association and a frequent listener to its national radio ministry, American Family Radio.
“There's a lot of people who get so much encouragement from it,” he says, “and to help them to live the Christian life, to keep Christ before them every day. It's an ongoing ministry to everybody that listens.”
A distinctive automobile tag in Mississippi – there are more than 200 of them – costs an additional $30 annually. The state receives $6 from that and the remaining $24 goes to support AFA.
A minimum of 300 tags must be ordered to create a specialty tag but Boyd predicts that won't be a problem.
"AFA means a lot to Mississippi," he says.
Boyd announced the specialty automobile plate at AFA headquarters, where he delivered a morning devotion for AFA staff.
