A New York Times investigation last summer found that "near-misses" in airline travel – potentially major accidents that were narrowly averted – have been occurring at an alarming rate, with 46 close calls involving commercial airlines revealed in the month of July alone.
Not all near-misses are potential mid-air collisions, but they could be ground incidents that lead to major problems in the air.
Now, Matt Walsh of The Daily Wire has discovered that the FAA's solution is to reduce the number of white males working in aviation.
According to recent internal footage, Angela McCullough, deputy chief operating officer of the FAA, appears to emphasize the need for increased diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts from various employees.
"Your whole program is very heavily male dominated. It just is, and really, it's white male dominated," she tells one unidentified supervisor in the video conference call. "Let's just say what it is, and then let's talk about what could the future look like if you really had this program that was representative of the whole country … of the whole world."
"This is why we're seeing our military recruitment at an all-time low," Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tennessee) told Washington Watch Monday. "We're not putting our best players in the game."
"It's physics," he continued. "It doesn't matter if you're a purple unicorn from New York; if you don't tighten that bolt down – as we saw with doors flying off these jets – if these tasks aren't complete, we will have accidents."
The FAA's hiring policy is under the purview of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. It is not exclusively race based, but according to the department's website, the policy involves including candidates with intellectual or physical disabilities, including blindness, deafness, and partial and full paralysis.
The website does not specify what positions disability hires might hold.
"After having a closed-door meeting with the FAA over this latest avoided catastrophe, I'm wondering if the people that are briefing me were put in the job not because of their qualifications or brain power, but because [FAA supervisors] were checking a box somewhere to satisfy some left-wing quota criteria," Burchett posed.
"It doesn't work," he stated. "It never has, and it never will. It's a sad situation, but that's who's running these departments. They're allowing 21- and 20-year-old Marxists right out of college to have this influence because they're being educated at public colleges and institutions," the congressman summarized.
