Brad Dacus of the Pacific Justice Institute (PJI) explains that California Senate Bill 107 (SB107) would allow an adult, even an unsuitable and unsafe parent, to legally take a child across state lines to California under the guise of securing genital surgeries and other "gender-affirming care" for the child.
His law firm – which is based in California but has offices in various parts of the country – has filed a formal legal opinion letter against this legislation.
"This outrageous piece of proposed legislation will make it legal for an individual to kidnap someone from another state to take them to California in order for that child to have a surgery to change their gender," says Dacus. "This is the most blatant violation of parental rights ever witnessed or attempted by a legislature. If it becomes law, every child outside the state of California will be at risk of a third party kidnapping the child and taking them to California in order to have body parts cut off, hormones injected, or have their perceived gender changed."
The California Legislature is currently in recess and will reconvene in August.
"Then we will know whether or not there has been enough public outcry to prevent them from adopting this hideous legislation," Dacus continues. "No parent in any state should have to fear their child being kidnapped, brought to California, and having their child – without their knowledge – have a serious, life-altering surgical procedure without their consent, without them knowing about it, and with law enforcement in California totally behind it."
