Has porn industry begun to crumble?

The pornography industry is showing signs that its illegal activities are finally catching up with it.

For roughly the last decade, the National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE) has targeted and exposed the operations of Pornhub, one of the largest porn purveyors in the world.

"They've come under fire for hosting content that depicts child sexual abuse, rape, sex trafficking, and other nonconsensual explicit material on its website," details NCOSE spokeswoman Madeleine McElligott. "They've been hit with lawsuits amounting to millions of dollars, and recently, mainstream companies have stopped running ads on their website, impacting about half of their revenue."

As a result, the CEO and COO of Pornhub's parent company, MindGeek, have resigned, and about half of its employees have reportedly been laid off. Other porn purveyors are suffering as well.

"It's also impacting the pornography industry as a whole," McElligott continues. "We believe that the era of anonymous, affordable, and accessible pornography is coming to an end, and survivors who have been exploited on pornography websites owned by MindGeek or otherwise will have a chance to get their lives back."

The porn industry has been shaken by the lawsuits and what NCOSE describes as illegal activities, and McElligott's organization intends to ensure that the industry as a whole crumbles.
