There are plenty of solid, Bible-believing Christians in American churches today, but not many of them are in the ministry leading mainline denominational churches. Jenna Ellis of “Jenna Ellis in the Morning” on American Family Radio (AFR) cites data from a 2023 Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) clergy survey.
“The pastor is nearly twice as likely to identify as a liberal Democrat. Now, if that doesn't tell you the utter state of the American church, I don't know what will,” states Ellis.
Members of their churches, on the other hand, seem to have the right worldview at least.
“A person who is sitting in the pews of a mainline church in America is three times more likely to identify as a conservative Republican compared to their pastor,” says Ellis.
For example, almost 75% of the clergy are more likely to oppose the overturn of Roe v. Wade, while only a little over 55% of churchgoers would oppose it.
While the clergy is more democratic and ideologically liberal, they also have a stronger need to address and discuss the social and political issues of today. A little over 40% of churchgoers agree that the church should address social issues, while almost 80% of clergy believes it needs to be discussed.
Ellis' guest this week was Pastor John Amanchukwu, who is the author of Erased: Uncovering the Lies of Critical Race Theory and Abortion. He says that these pastors have a woke mind-virus and are looking at the wrong target.
“Fear of man is driving the divide. Proverbs 29:25 says that the fear of man bringeth a snare. And so, pastors fear cancellation, but people fear God,” explains Amanchukwu.
He says that they may think they are loving the world around them, but really, they are losing their moorings. They think that they are reaching for truth, but they are deceived.
“Many pastors confuse compassion with compromise. Compassion without truth becomes sentimental deception, and the pew still believes sin is sin and truth is truth,” states Amanchukwu.
