Pastor applauds Trump's fearless support of Israel

A Southern Baptist pastor – one of the first evangelical leaders to endorse Donald Trump in his first presidential campaign – reminded his congregation on Sunday that it's wholly biblical to support Israel.

President Trump addressed the nation Saturday night after American warplanes unleashed fire and fury on Iranian nuclear ambitions. He gave general details about the mission, told Iran he was still open to talks, then closed the speech with this:

Trump: "In particular, God, I want to just say we love you, God, and we love our great military. Protect them. God bless the Middle East, God bless Israel, and God bless America. Thank you very much."

Jeffress, Rev. Robert (FBC Dallas) Jeffress

Dr. Robert Jeffress of First Baptist Dallas shared Trump's remarks with his congregation the next morning at church. "Have you ever heard another president say that? Republican or Democrat, no other president has said that before," he noted as his congregation applauded.

America and her president are acting morally, the pastor explained. "History is very clear on this: Those who oppose Israel are always on the wrong side of history – and most importantly they're on the wrong side of God," he stated.

Jeffress, who is on the president's faith council, shared that he reached out to Trump before the airstrike, offering his encouragement.

"Thursday I texted him and I just reminded him that there are millions of Christians who pray for him every day. And I said, 'Mr. President, the vast majority of those Christians are going to trust you and support whatever decision you make.'"

Pastor Jeffress, who participated in the Trump inauguration events in January, remains a faith adviser to the President in an unofficial capacity – and describes their relationship as "an informal friendship that I've cherished for these last ten years."
