Christian apologist pushes back against Christian silence in midterm election

It is being reported that a growing number of Christians are thinking about sitting the midterms out.

Some Christians may be saying, “I don't like either candidate.” Others may say, “Politics is a worldly, carnal art, and a Christian should be above all that.”

CNN reports Republicans are worried that white evangelicals are not going to show up to the voting polls, which could lead to Democrats winning strategic seats that can switch control of Congress.

White evangelicals make up around 20% of the electorate despite only being 13% of the nation’s population, said the Public Religion Research Institute. And while about eight in 10 voted for Trump in the last three elections, problems like the economy have turned this election into a test of faith in Republican Party for Christians.

Turek, Frank (Christian apologist) Turek

Frank Turek, an author and Christian apologist, talks to a lot of people, and he tells “Today’s Issues” on American Family Radio (AFR) that some Christians say they don’t get involved in politics, they just preach the gospel.

“I guess you don’t think the gospel is very important then. And they say, ‘What do you mean?’ I say because politics affects your ability to preach and live the gospel,” Turek responds to them.

The Bible commands Christians, he says, to love their neighbor. One of the ways Christians do that is by protecting them, and their vote elects righteous lawmakers.

“When you don’t punish the guilty, you wind up punishing the innocent because letting these people out into the streets to allow them to prey on the innocent is exactly what government ought not to do,” Turek says.

He continues by saying the left has no such reservations.

“If godly people don’t get involved, Satan will,” Turek states. “You’re going to be made to care when they come to your house and say, ‘If your kid has gender dysphoria and you don't transition that kid, we're going to take the kid from you.’”

The Christian vote can help correct wrongs, he says.

“Are you telling me that in 1860, Christians should not have gotten involved in politics to outlaw slavery? Is that what you're telling me?” Turek questions.
