Should Christians vote for a Hindu governor in Ohio?

Should Christians vote for a Hindu governor in Ohio?

Vivek Ramaswamy vows that as a Hindu, he would be strongest fighter for Christian conservative values the state of Ohio has ever had.

The Ohio Republican gubernatorial candidate has received the endorsement of Ohio Value Voters, a Christian organization that advocates for political candidates. Still there are Christian voters who have expressed concerns about supporting a Hindu for governor.

This is not a new concern as Christians questioned Ramaswamy’s Hindu faith when he was a presidential candidate in 2023. However, even back then, he stood by Christian conservative values, believing that God is real and that there are only two genders, and criticized many liberal policies.

Ramaswamy, who is locked in a tough fight with Democrat Amy Acton (both featured right), addresses the subject in an interview with American Family News (AFN).

“I think it's a fair question to ask. I actually appreciate it. The question for a Christian conservative voter is, who is going to fight for the Christian conservative values that I believe do make up the backdrop of this country and our founding? And on that, the answer could not be clearer. In this race, it's obviously me,” Ramaswamy states.

However, he takes his answer a step further.

“I would go so far as to say, not only will I be the most conservative governor Ohio has ever seen in our history, but I will be the strongest fighter for Christian conservative values the state’s ever had,” Ramaswamy says.

He reminds voters what job he is seeking.

“I'm not running to be anyone’s pastor. I'm running to be the governor of the state,” Ramaswamy clarifies. “My job is not to preach to you, my job is to fight for you, to defend our Constitution, to defend our way of life, to defend our state, and to fight for people to have a better path forward to live a better life for their families. That much I know how to do.”

Acton, who is Jewish, has not responded to our request for comment.
