Not only were thanks given to God for His hand in America’s first 250 years, but guidance was sought for the next 250 years.
Frank Pavone, founder of Priests for Life, spoke on the “Jenna Ellis in the Morning Show” on American Family Radio about Rededicate 250. Pavone says that it struck him from the start that something was different about this event.
“I have been too so many rallies, so many events, prayer gatherings and whatnot, but I can't recall one where the feeling in the crowd — the sense of enthusiasm, gratitude, joy — was as strong as it was this past Sunday,” Pavone says.
This event, he notes wasn’t just part of the America 250 observance.
“Two hundred and fifty years ago to the day, the Second Continental Congress had declared May 17th, 1776, to be a day of prayer, of fasting, and of humbling ourselves before God in the spirit of 2nd Chronicles 7:14,” Pavone states.
President Donald Trump recently read that verse at the America Reads the Bible event, and the video was broadcast as part of the rededication.
The rededication, Pavone says, was a “one in American history event.”
“Since our founders themselves dedicated the country to God explicitly in the Declaration of Independence, never have the American people come together on a particular day at the request of the president and actually rededicated the whole nation to God,” Pavone states.
What does it mean, Pavone asks, that the nation was rededicated to God?
“Rededication is not a foreign concept to Christians. First of all, as many of the speakers mentioned, it means to turn away from sin. We can't have rededication; we can't have revival until we have repentance,” Pavone says.
A big theme of the day, he says, was admitting to the Lord that the people of this county have fallen short of the ideals of this nation and the teaching of His gospel and repenting.
The second part of the rededication was recognizing that this is a unique nation.
Pavone noted the sovereignty of American citizens, a revolutionary idea 250 years ago when most governments were run by a king. And that sovereignty, that freedom, is there, he says, because this is one nation under God, not under a king, ruler, court, Congress or slave owner.
“There is no God but the Lord. We are already under God. Rededicating a nation means we're acknowledging that truth, we're reminding ourselves of what already is, and then we're aligning ourselves with it. We're promising to live accordingly, and then we're promising to defend that,” Pavone states.
He hopes that everyone was a part of rededication of the nation to God, not just physically but in heart, spirit, family and church.
