Current ceasefire signals time for prayer for peace in Middle East

People say that prayer is needed about the situation in Iran, but what should be prayed for?

All eyes are on Islamabad, Pakistan Saturday as Vice President J.D. Vance and other U.S. delegates are set to meet with Iranian officials for peace talks.

Dr. Ray Pritchard of Keep Believing Ministries said told American Family Radio (AFR)'s "Today's Issues" program that Christians ought to pray for peace.

"That's always a biblical thing to pray for," says Pritchard. "We ought to pray for God to guide President (Donald) Trump and whoever's in charge over in Iran."

Chris Mitchell, Middle East Bureau Chief for CBN News, called for similar prayers, saying that the Book of Timothy encourages praying for leaders and those in authority. He emphasizes the need of prayer for Trump to receive wisdom and listen to the Holy Spirit and his advisors since he has become a central figure in this war.

Pritchard added that there ought to be prayer for an end to the fighting so that there could be peace in Iran, so that the Gospel could be spread, so that the ships could go through the Strait of Hormuz and so that there could be a settling down of tensions.

"Because just a couple of days ago, we were talking about wiping out a civilization, not literally, but that's what was being said," says Pritchard.

Earlier this week on his Truth Social platform Trump suggested the entire Iranian civilization could be wiped out. Politicians, reporters and other people had a lot of questions over that choice of words, which could be interpreted, Mitchell said, as threats to commit what the U.N. defines as genocide against Iran's population.

"It's good to pray for peace in the Middle East, that's always appropriate, and for God to guide our leaders in the way of peace," Prichard states.

Mitchell also called for prayer for the protection of U.S. and Israeli service members as well as any else who are in harms way. Most of all, he called for prayers that the Iran’s regime will fall.

“That the people of Iran could be free, and maybe our brothers and sisters in Christ, who are part of the fastest growing church in the world right now in Iran, would be able to be free as well to preach the gospel without fear of imprisonment, torture, or even death,” Mitchell said.
