Someone trying to do that is Dr. Frank Turek, and as Chris Woodward explains, this message is even more timely.
“The best evidence shows literally that the Resurrection took place April 5, 33 A.D. This Sunday is April 5, 2026. That's 1,993 years ago. It just so happens it lines up this year."
That's what author and apologist Dr. Frank Turek said to an audience Tuesday at the University of Mississippi.
This event was called I Don't Have Enough Faith To Be An Atheist.
Turek touched on things such as truth, evidence for God's existence, miracles, and whether we can trust the New Testament accounts of Jesus' resurrection. He also took questions from his audience including one from an atheist.
He challenged those in attendance to think about Jesus’ disciples. What was in it for them to spread the gospel?
"What did these people have to gain by saying it was true? They had everything to lose by saying it was true."
Most people, men especially, do things for lust, fortune, and power. The New Testament writers did not get any of these things, Turek said.
"Did the New Testament writers suddenly get real popular with the ladies for saying Jesus had resurrected from the dead? No, they didn't get sex. Did they get money? No, they weren't 21st century prosperity gospel preachers. Did they get power? No, they got the opposite of power. They got persecuted. Paul had power when he was persecuting the Church. As soon as he becomes a Christian, what happens to him? He's the one persecuted … They had no motive to make this up. In fact, why would they die for a known lie?"
Turek challenged the audience on the existence of truth. Is truth real, or is it not?
There’s a lot of people that can’t handle the truth. They say, ‘you’ve got your truth, I’ve got my truth, all truth is relative.’”
The most important thinking skill students can have is the ability to reason, Turek said.
“We don’t teach logic in public schools anymore. If we did things would be a lot better. Instead of teaching kids what to think or how to think we’re teaching them what to feel, and that can be dangerous. If you follow your feelings without reason or without moral restraint, you’re going to wind up in a very dark place.”
