WASHINGTON — In a speech that was advertised to be an effort by Kamala Harris to bring the country together, Harris instead used the opportunity Tuesday evening in Washington to attack Trump calling him a “petty tyrant” and “wannabe dictator.”

Harris also used the venue of her speech, the Ellipse in front of the White House, to lay the blame on Trump for what happened on January 6th, 2021.

“Look, we know who Donald Trump is. He is the person who stood at this very spot nearly four years ago and sent an armed mob to the United States Capitol to overturn the will of the people in a free and fair election,” she said. Trump, she added, “has spent a decade trying to keep the American people divided and afraid of each other.”

Ahead of Harris’ speech, Trump used remarks to reporters at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida on Tuesday morning to accuse Harris of closing with a message that doesn’t address everyday Americans’ day-to-day struggles and kitchen-table concerns.

He said Harris keeps “talking about Hitler, and Nazis, because her record’s horrible."

Harris's boss, President Joe Biden, didn't attend the Harris rally but made headlines earlier in the day by referring to Trump followers as "garbage."

Some conservative commentators reminded people that Biden was taking a page from Hillary Clinton's controversial remarks back in 2016, when she referred to Trump supporters as a "basket of deplorables."
