Joe Biden and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. both have female running mates, and a former member of Trump's legal team says the "pressure is on" the former president to follow suit.

Jenna Ellis says Trump already has the MAGA vote, but his VP pick would need to bring in other demographics that he is lacking, such as independents and moderates.

She recently posted on X that she thinks it should be former representative and 2020 presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii).

"He needs someone that will appeal to suburban women, who will appeal to disaffected Democrats, and nobody does that better than disaffected Democrat herself, Tulsi Gabbard," Ellis submits.

The attorney also points out that as much as conservatives would love to say that identity politics do not matter, "they actually do when it comes to voting demographics."

"Also, just from my own experience having worked for President Trump, I know that it matters to him personally," she adds.

Ellis recalls Trump's promise in 2020 to nominate a woman to the United States Supreme Court, and Amy Coney Barrett replaced the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg later that year.

"He's well aware of how identity politics work, even in not so conservative demographics with moderates [and] independents. So, I think he is actually feeling that pressure," Ellis continues. "If he were to choose a man, that would just be one other line of attack for the Left – and even RFK as an independent – to level against him, and he wants to even that playing field."

Additionally, she says Gabbard would be a good support and present a healthy contrast.

"He is very bombastic; people don't like the mean tweets," she notes. "Tulsi is a calm presence. She is everything basically on media and on camera that Trump isn't."

That, she says, is one of the reasons Trump picked Mike Pence to be his running mate in 2016.

While Ellis acknowledges she and Gabbard would disagree on "some points of policies and politics," she finds her to be sincere in her conversion from the Democratic Party.

"I think she'd be a great pick," she reiterates.

RFK has chosen Silicon Valley attorney Nicole Shanahan as his running mate, and Joe Biden's, of course, is Kamala Harris.
