At their most recent annual conference, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP), which supports medical and surgical intervention for children who are confused about their gender, has rejected three European panels who want more guardrails on what are often irreversible treatments.
Most of the rejected speakers reportedly have a long track record of "transitioning" children. They still support gender manipulation for minors, but based off their own data, they think more safeguards are needed. The AACAP, which sets practice guidelines for the field, calls that an "effort to oppress."
Dr. Quentin Van Meter of the American College of Pediatricians says that sort of action is typical of liberal medical groups run by ideologues.
"It's a very carefully selected group of executive directors that are voted in," he explains. "They're candidates chosen so that they will bring on a very woke and liberal type of viewpoint on the practice of their specialty, and they then take over the top leadership of the organization."
That means with or without the agreement of the members, and with or without the support of science, the leaders formulate policy based on their ideology.
"That's certainly the case for the American Academy of Pediatrics," Dr. Van Meter states. "I would assume that since the American Medical Association and the American Psychiatric Association, they're all in that same position, that almost every organization that's sort of in support of the transgender agenda, they are all essentially run by ideology and not by science."
The science so far shows that treating kids with so-called "gender-affirming" care is harmful, so that is the view of the group Dr. Van Meter represents, the American College of Pediatricians.
