Warning to Church: Be wary of scripture-twisting worldviews

Homosexual activists aren't interested in co-existing with Christianity and its teachings, warns a theologian, because the competing worldviews can't exist side by side.

Colin Smothers, executive director for the Council of Biblical Manhood and Womanhood, says the LGBT movement ultimately wants to defeat Christianity as an opposing worldview. To accomplish that goal, the Left often twists the language of the Bible to accomplish its goals.

“I honestly think that’s what we saw this past weekend when the Biden administration, Joe Biden himself, decided to declare the very day that Christians around the world were celebrating the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ from the dead, he’s going to say this is now Transgender Day of Visibility. That coincidence, I don’t think, is accidental,” Smothers told "Washington Watch" show host Jody Hice.

The White House on Good Friday proclaimed that Easter Sunday is Transgender Day of Visibility in America, an annual event that fell on the same day as Easter.

“Transgender Americans are part of the fabric of our Nation.  Whether serving their communities or in the military, raising families or running businesses, they help America thrive.  They deserve, and are entitled to, the same rights and freedoms as every other American, including the most fundamental freedom to be their true selves,” the proclamation read.

The President’s official Twitter account on Easter Sunday morning posted a reminder:

“Today, on Transgender Day of Visibility, I have a simple message to all trans Americans: I see you. You are made in the image of God, and you’re worthy of respect and dignity.”

But the message posted by either the President or a handler, a reference to Genesis 1:27, intentionally omitted half of the verse, Smothers believes.

“If you look at Genesis 1:27, yes God created each of us in His image, right after that it says that He created us male and female in His image. What we saw Biden do with invoking that very verse, Genesis 1:27, in his declaration, is using and twisting the scriptures in a very contrary manner to the way it was originally intended, not only by its human author, Moses, but also the divine author,” Smothers said. “That is exactly how the enemy uses scripture. It’s something all Christians everywhere should be outraged about.”

Typically, a worldview will have several basic tenets. It will seek to answer questions about one’s origin, identity, meaning and purpose, Smothers said.

Attacking Christ’s message

The LGBTQ world view attacks the faith.

“At every point the LGBT ideology is countering the Christian fundamental message. You’re not a God-created creature. You’re self-created. Who am I? You’re not a person who receives an identity and an affirmation of your personhood from a creator God, a benevolent creator God, but instead, I’m going to self-create my identity, and however my feelings are going to direct me today, that’s what I’m going to follow,” Smothers said. “Point by point you can see how the LGBT ideology is really a direct threat and a challenge to a more fundamental Christian understanding of the world.”

It's important for Christians to know and understand God’s word when opposing worldviews seek to distort it for their own means.

“We need to know what it is that God’s word says. When the enemy twists the word, when the enemy uses the vocabulary and the grammar of the Bible, we don’t just way, ‘Oh, that sounds like Christianity,’ we’re able to understand when it’s opposite, that it’s in direct contradiction to the way this word was originally intended,” Smothers said.

Christians, your faith is portable – carry it

Smothers said Christians need to face attacks from the LGBTQ community head-on.

“We do not have to check our Christian faith at the door of our workplace, at the door of our coffee shop. We don’t check our faith when we go out of the doors of our own church. We live as Christians everywhere," he insisted. "We certainly know that’s what the Left is doing. The Left is smuggling in their convictions and ideology into the public square, and Christians have every single right to do so.”
