Houston police say Lakewood church shooter had possession of antisemitic writings

HOUSTON — Police in Houston Texas have identified the shooter in Sunday's incident at Lakewood church as 36-year-old Genesse Ivonne Moreno, although she has also used the name Jeffrey Escalante Moreno in the past.

Moreno was killed by two off-duty police officers when she opened fire shortly after entering the church. A 7-year old boy with her was wounded in the exchange and he is is critical condition. Police have identified him as Moreno's biological son.

Although police aren't willing to be firm about the motive at this time, they did tell reporters at a Monday afternoon news conference that Moreno had a sticker on her AR-15 rifle with the word " Palestine" on it. They say they have also recovered antisemitic writings from her possessions.

"We do believe that there was a familial dispute that has taken place between her ex-husband and her ex-husband's family," some of whom are Jewish, police said.
